The education system did not come around till the nineteenth century, formal schooling to make it in life. This soon was turned into main courses such as English and mathematics and so on. From the start of the nineteenth century in Chicago the schooling system was set up to Americanize immigrants to provide them on how to earn citizenship. The school was cramped disembodied of one another by curtain of ages four up into early adulthood. This was recorded in 1820 as the first schoolhouse of Chicago. Due to being tightly packed in a small apartment made it difficult to educate the children because it was rather uncomfortable and a loud atmosphere that had many drifting elsewhere. Schools in Chicago were official to conduct in 1837 making this a marking period that changed the education system in Chicago forever. |

As soon as schools began more commonly in the city the attendees of them rose. All funds were provided by the city from taxation that was rather low bankrolls and simply not enough. Children of all ages were being educated in a building that was deemed by inspectors to have gruesome smells that filled the halls of a lack of maintained building. It was not until 1854 that a man named John Dore was presented with the title of superintendent who had a plan. Accompanied by William Wells, Dore and Wells had faced many circles with coming up with solutions to better the schools without a lump sum of money. Taking care of business began with three issues of many that the schooling system lacked, to properly prepare teachers to work within the system, through separation of the children based on age group and lastly to rehabilitate the buildings to meet inspectors expectations of a sanitized faculties. By dividing the students by age it became easier to switch into classroom setting transforming benches they sat on into individual desk for everyone. This change had made students more comfortable and suited to pay attention to instructors because of the sound waves decreased. By 1872, from small schoolhouses were now set up with a board to ensure that the city of Chicago was to flourish and meet the means of a public education. The public education systems were improving by 1900’s because attendance skyrockets making it more common to attend. Rough patches were still real. Lack of resources and course plan set ups drove teachers to have higher stress and frustration. Teachers not only lacked materials and curriculum but their own voice. Until 1897 when the Chicago Teachers Federation (CTF) was brought together to speak up for teachers. A small demand was asked from teachers for improvement of their work environment, pensions, and most importantly resources. The Chicago Teachers Federation developed into one of the best times for gathering for a great cause, education. |
