Education is a rather difficult thing to understand but it is not impossible to fix. I believe there are three things that can better the quality of education everyone receives. The first thing I believe that has to change is the expectations of our schooling system such as resources. Although education is not in our constitutional right was a bill put into act as of 2002. The motto and act of congress created called no child left behind. This motto sounds rather great to hear but yet all schools vary with what is left behind is what is not so great to see. President George W Bush proposed this legislation on January 23 of 2001. Giving it a full year to take effect officials has the time to review and make adjustments. I do not seem to understand why the quality education is not our rights but a bill allowing creating what is an “expectations” to know by a particular age is okay. I believe that this whole No Child Left Behind act needs to be reformed for what it really is. No Child Left Behind because of standardizing expectations or lack of materials. If the United States President believes that no child should be left behind then why wouldn’t he have made sure that all schools had what they needed to provide for students? I mean isn’t the president supposed to look out for the good of all people, not just a few. A reformat of the No Child Left Behind needs to be revised and up to date on what the real issues is, a lack of resources.

Another root cause I believe needs to be looked at is the fact we are basing everything of test scores or grade point averages. “If you have a high SAT/ACT score but low GPA, admissions officers will assume your academic potential is high – your SAT/ACT score shows that – but that your motivation is low, hence your low GPA” the reason why I believe standardized test are inaccurate because of motivation. In school we are always being taught to be the best at everything we do to be better than others. Yet schools fail to realize what actually motivated students to get there rather than having them create a mindset of being better than others. Schools are so busy on trying to prepare students for these tests and taking them this eliminates time to actually learn something new those students can apply later. These test only ask certain things they can expect us to know by when in reality my peers and myself have all different backgrounds of science from our prior school is the reason my school is not so successful our freshman year in biology class. This whole expectation of knowing certain subjects by a particular age just does not correlate with scores.

The last root cause I believe that needs to be done is a set policy or law set in the United States pertaining to resources. Although each of the fifty states vary on how things are run there needs to be something put into action that all schools across the county have the materials. There is no reason why schools vary with the supplies based on the funds. Although some schools receive less money that is not a reason why they should not have the same as other who do. It is not the students fault on why their school lacks resources it is the states for not providing the necessities that all students need not just some. If we want a quality education for all then we must treat them all the same by giving the proper school resources in order to set up everyone with success regardless of where the school is located.
